They say opposites attract, but I say that opposites excite! My work explores the dynamic tension between bold geometric shapes, high-contrasting palettes, and an interplay between structure and spontaneity. I use colors that contrast, shapes that collide, and abstract images that break boundaries. My Wall Flower App exemplifies an interplay of contrasting and complimentary shapes and colors as well as a contradiction of social norms. It is a throwback to the 60’s dances where “wall flowers” would be excluded, standing with their backs against a cold concrete wall, disengaged from the social interaction which was the dance. The Wall Flower App was created as a space where shy and socially awkward individuals could practice their interviewing skills allowing them the ability to engage in the dance, i.e. the interview. I used a pallet of 60’s retro oranges and yellows to create an atmosphere of warmth and inclusion opposite the experience of the “wall flower.” By using high contrast pallets and colliding geometric forms, my work exposes the tension between visual friction and complimentary harmony, creating art that reflects the complexity and contradictions of life.
